50kg plus Monster Leopard Ray Escape.

Here is how it happened.

Battle One:

Nicholas(the rod owner) was about to change his bait. He took up his rod n pump...Ohhhh... get stuck(snag)...he pump again..Zzzzzzzzzz suddenly this fish start to pull his line n he almost fell foward....hey "ah Lai ah Lai".....he call out...."got fish'.....Ah Lai was another regular present there yesterday night...The fish keep on going out pulling along his line non stop...Ah Lai come over n take the rod from him as Nicholas was still quite new to big game fishing....The fish keep going without stopping....by now half of the spool line already out....The drag become tighter n tighter...zzzz stop.....ZZZ stop....ZZZ...stop...I saw it quickly ask Lai to release the drag alittle n it goes well. Seeing Lai can't stop this train, I took over the rod...It still going...but after awhile it stop briefly...I cease upon this changes to pump the rod n get control of it. I start pumping n was able to gain line...I never stop doing...reason is to get this monster up from the seabed. I successful n the fish was at mid water by now...Nicholas saw it n ask me to let him have the rod...As the fish is already at mid water n it safe to pass on...I let him have the rod n went to fixed my gaff...He took over n the fish start to take out line again n flow along with the current...After awhile...Nicholas is ask for help. I saw Hon who was here to chat to took over...Hon was also a regular there n has many experience in handling big fishes. But the fish still too strong...It tread water with the help of the current flow n was on a tug of war with Hon...After awhile Hon was getting tired..,.I took over again...The fish with the help of the current move inward to the left side of the jetty....I play another tug of war with it....After some rest...Nicholas was ready to took over...by now the fish has move inside the T juction as U can see from the picture...It started to tired n gave way...Nicholas wind in the line n we will be able to see the surface fish...Wow...it is a huge leopard ray...To gaff it...I need the fish to be bring nearer to the jetty. And to steer this monster on the water surface with just a thin line connecting is not easy...I ask Hon to took over the rod as Nicholas is very tiring...Hon successful of bring it near n my first gaff was missed..The fish dive downward...Hon bring it up again...I gaff the second time n it was in...but it struggle n tear...down again it goes....Hon third time bring it up n I manage to gaff it hard n in...I hang on to the gaff rope....from the weight..I know very well with just one gaff I not be able to lift it up...I ask for the second gaff...They manage to borrow another one but was very small..It is a own tie two big fishing hook rope gaff...Haha.. Have is better than none....We manage to hook it on the tail part...Now two gaff already in....but the weight still too heavy...Hon say he has a gaff in his car.. so I ask him to go n take it...Haha...I have to hang on longer to wait for the third gaff...Finally Hon arrived with the gaff...It take sometime before will gaff it in the nose part. It is not easy to gaff with a rope gaff as it is hanging n swinging around plus the fish is also struggling..Once three gaff is in...I ask another two guys to help pulling...We will able to bring it up but very unfortunate...the fresh of the fish gave way n it drop back....Just too bad... Not yours mean it not yours...After trying so hard to land it n yet it was snatch back by the sea dragon king...hahaha...So battle one ended...


Battle Two:

It was an hour later....Hon already went home to rest. Rolemodel...one of our moderator who has watch part of the first battle went off also after chatting with me...I feel like drinking coffee... I ask Nicholas n his friend to went to the lagoon to buy it. Off they go...I was catching squid...Lai was walking around checking for floating squid...Suddenly a reel alarm sounded... Yes it was Nicholas rod again...Haha... He is very lucky tonight... Lai was the first one to reach the rod...He strike...yes...it was on n yes big one again...It take line after line going non stop... Lai hang on to it for awhile before he decide to hand the rod to me...I took over n hang on.. waiting for the fish to stop...Haha.. by now the reel line is less than half due to a cut off by Nicholas after the first battle...It manage to stop for awhile n I started to gain line...But half way...the line become loose...Hai !!!....the hook gave way...after winding back the line...we saw the hook has open slightly...Seem that the setting hook was no good n it gave way during the fight..Hahaha...another one gone but me n Lai are happy as we don't know how long we going to fight this if it didn't manage to escape...Infact both of us was so tiring after the first hard fought battle...All this while..Nicholas didn't know as he was on his way to buy coffee...Hahaha....
