2011 My First Catch
Date: 22-01-2011 Time: 10am Rod: Penn Powerstick 10ft. Reel: Daiwa Saltist 40 Line: 30lbs braided with 50lbs mono leader. Rig: Cable car Bait: Live herring
Was there last night until 2am. Only caught a small marine cat fish around 500g when the tide is full. Went to sleep at my mobile home until this morning 7am and headed back in.
Casted out two rod with bottom and cable car rig. Bottom bait was very lasting some hardly need to change bait. When water is three quarter up, tamban become rare. Luckily my live bait still around and a hit is on around 10am. My Saltist reel alarm went for a screech. I strike and the fish is on. It did two acrobatic jump on the water surface and I can see it was a queenie. After some dash and circle around, I bring it near to the jetty. I used my rod to lift it up. Never weigh but it should be around 1kg plus.
Sea Dragon King Wishes
Date: 05-02-2011 Time: 10.10am Rod: Shoreangler Big Game 10.2ft Reel: Shimano Torium 20 Line: 30lbs braided with 50lbs mono leader Rig: Cable car Bait Live tamban
Every year the third day of the lunar new year I will go fishing. It is the beginning of my annual five days holiday before I started work. Same this year and I headed there early in the morning. Casted out two rods with a bottom and a top cable car rig. Tide was coming up and current flow was very smooth. A lot of tamban around so live bait is easily available.
At 10.10am, the Sea Dragon king decided to send his good wishes to me. He never fail to do so for the past several year. My Torium reel alarm goes off and a queen fish was seen jumping out of the water surface. I strike and the fish pull the rig and go deeper. It then jump out again much further away. I retrive the line and it follow inward. It dive down again when near the jetty. It took me some fast rewind action before I can surface it. A hongkie couple who was there to jig for tamban come to my aid. He took my gaff and try to gaff it for me. But after several try he fail. I ask him to hold the rod and I took over the gaff. When landed, the fish weigh 2.4kg on the scale.
My Biggest on Cable Car Rig
Date: 09-02-2011 Time: 12pm Rod: Shoreangler Big Game 10.2ft Reel: Shimano Torium 20 Line: 30lbs braided with 50lbs mono leader Rig: Cable Car Bait: Live tamban
Today is my last lunar new year holiday before work started tomorrow. Same as the past three days, I headed to the jetty in the early morning. As I never bring any bait along, I quickle set up my two rods and went to jig for tamban. Luckily today is better than yesterday and manage to get some very quickly. Casted out the rods with both top and bottom rig.
Tide was coming up and the current was smooth. Bait was quiet lasting except a few time the live bait was stolen by the small garfish which eaten it without paying.
By now the sun was very hot, I hide under my shade to relax. Suddenly, my torium reel went screaming. Before I strike, I can see a fish leap out of the water surface. I strike and it goes jumping a few time and gone further out. At one time it even strip out more of the line. After awhile, it slow down and I started to gain back line. It took me some time before I able to bring it in. By now another angler Tony was ready with my gaff. He gave a hard pull and the fish was on the way up. When landed, I weigh it and it hit the scale at 5.8kg. Not my biggest queenie caught but was the biggest I ever hookup on a cable car rig.
No King but Queen
Date: 12-11-2011 Time: 0930am Rod: Shoreangler BigGame 10.2ft. Reel: Daiwa Saltist 40 Line: 30lbs braided with 50lbs mono leader Rig: Cable Car Bait: Live Herring.
Last night attend a dinner so never go fishing. Me long time never do day fishing as I mostly catching squid at night. So this morning headed down to the jetty.
Casted two rods out on bottom feeder and added a cable car rig with live bait on one of the rod. I switch the cable car rig to the other rod when changing the bottom bait. Like that all the while I will had a cable car rig in the water. It maximise my chance of hitting a fish.
Yes...it come at around 9.30am....My saltist reel alarm went screaming.....I was standing nearby as I already got enough tamban. I strike and hook on. The fish make a acrobatic jump on the water surface. It dive down deep and up again one more jump. It move to my right....I follow and cross over my other rod....It then swim inward. I wind fast and bring it to surface....Yusof who was there bring his rope gaff and bring it up.
A nice queenie laying on the jetty floor....It weigh 3kg....Twenty minute later...after photo taking.....I fillet it as the sky is turning dark...Will be back looking for the King as last week someone had hookup one but lost it when the king when under the jetty.

Date: 27-01-2012 Time: 1pm Rod: Shoreangler Big Game 10.2ft Reel: Shimano Torium 20 Line: 30lbs braided with 50lbs mono leader Rig: Cable car Bait: Live herring
Still on my lunar new year holiday....Went down around 10am when the tide was on the way up. Casted out two rods on bottom feeder and cable car rig. Manage to get some live tamban although quite rare today.
Around 1pm as the tide was about to full...after changing my bottom bait, I slid down my cable car rig....this garfish was nearby and it go for the grab n run....I strike immediately and it was ON. It make several acrobatic jump on the water surface before I able to wind it in. I use my rod to lift it up as the water was high.
After unhook and photo taking, the fish was given to a fellow who wanted it.
Finally... I got it.
Date: 11-02-2012 Time: 12.05pm Rod: Shoreangler Big Game 10.2ft Reel: Shimano Torium 20 Line: 30lbs braided joint with 50lbs mono Rig: Long snood bottom feeder Bait: Dead Tamban(herring)
Since 2007 when I caught one......every year I had been waiting to caught one again....Year 2008 saw two was lost within two weeks by two different angler...2009 n 2010 none this fish turn up. Even last year never heard of anyone caught it.
This morning I reach jetty around 8am plus....I used two set of rods....one is multiplyer and the other a spinning. After casting out with frozen tamban which I brought along....I went to jig for fresh tamban....It was very rare....but still manage to get two for my cable car rig. After this none at all....Luckily...two anglers who was there earlier wanted to go back and pass me some of their balance.
But today the bottom bait was very lasting. I hardly need to change bait. Water was very nice and the current was smooth but only no action. When near to 12pm....My stomach already start calling.....I decided to packup....I first wind back the spinning set....My live bait on the cable car rig was still very alive.....As usual...wash the rig, sinker and the rod...and leave it to dry...
Then I went to my multiplyer set...I was about to pickup when suddenly....the alarm screammmmm.......natually I pickup and strike....YES it ON.....The fellow strip my line and go.....I take alook at my line on the sea surface ......It slowly floating up.....Eh....could it be a bird ray ???? I was wondering...Bird ray will surface when it was hookup....But it never surface up....It turn to the right n move along the current flow......After some distance...it turn inward to the jetty.....Then It surface....COBIA....I shouted...I quickly wind my line faster, tighten my drag alittle and move toward nearer to the fish....I am preparing to fight hard with this fish if it wanted to go under... Yes...this fellow once near to the jetty....It DIVE down and move under.....But I gave no chance......I use my rod to steer it out....not one....but three time to prevent it from go under the jetty....Finnally it tired out.....I shouted for gaff...I got a young angler there to help me get my gaff from my bike....but before he does....another angler come along with his fixed gaff...First try was missed.....I had to steer the fish to reposition again...before he do a second try and it was successful. He haul it up alone.....Thank YOU gentleman for your help.
Once on the floor.....I get someone to weigh it....It tip the scale at 12kg.....YES....I had waited four year for this fish....and I got it again today...THANK U SEA DRAGON KING for releasing this fish for me.
Big Garfish
Date: 24-02-2012 Time: 6.30pm Rod: Penn Slammer 10ft Reel; Shimano Torium 20 Line: 30lbs braided join with 50lbs mono leader Rig: Cable car Bait: Live tamban
Reach there around 6pm. Tide was still going down. Casted out two set of rods with frozen tamban as bait. One added with a cable car rig with live bait after I manage to jig one.
While I continue to jig for tamban....I saw my cable car rig was straighten out just below the water surface....this show that something had grab hold of my live bait as my rod tip rattle also. I keep watch but didn't make my move....After about 30 sec later..haha...it pull hard and the reel alarm scream...pause...then scream again as the fish move...
I grab hold of the rod and strike...Yes...fish on....The fish jump out of the water surface and those who was there watching...WOW!!!!!!!!....hahha....
After some struggle....it gave up and I wind it in....It was too heavy to lift up by the rod so I ask another angler to hold my rod so that I can haul it up with my hand...
Once on the floor...those peoples there watching already clicking away with their phone camera... It hit the scale at 2.5kg....YES...It is another record for myself on Garfish( Todak) caught by a cable car rig.
My personal record for shore fishing on Garfish is 3kg but it was caught on a long snood bottom feeder rig.
